Several other UP campuses also make Top 100
The Ƶ Diliman (UP Diliman) led all Philippine universities in the latest EduRank report released March 2, 2025, ranking No. 1 in the country, No. 366 in Asia and No. 1,348 worldwide.
Several other constituent units (CUs) in the UP System also landed in the Top 100 nationwide. UP Los Baños ranked No. 5 in the country, No. 882 in Asia and No. 2,774 globally; UP Manila placed sixth locally, No. 904 in Asia and No. 2,843 in the world; UP Visayas ranked 11th in the Philippines, No. 1,977 in Asia and No. 5,401 globally; UP Baguio took the No. 29 spot nationwide, No. 2,971 in Asia and No. 6,318 internationally; and UP Mindanao ranked 49th in the Philippines, No. 2,838 in Asia and No. 7,277 worldwide.
In subject-specific rankings, UP Diliman ranked first in environmental science, besting 68 other universities in the country. The CU produced 6,307 research works that were 98,480 times in other publications. The subject area included fields such as geology, geography and cartography, ecology, paleontology and oceanography.
UP Diliman also ranked first in engineering, with 5,732 published works cited 72,178 times. These covered topics such as materials science, optical engineering, electrical engineering, metallurgical engineering and chemical engineering.
In biology, UP Diliman ranked first in the country, producing a total of 5,616 research works that were cited 99,418 times in other publications. These research works covered fields such as biochemistry, paleontology, genetics, wildlife and fisheries management and conservation.
UP Diliman also leads in the country’s universities in physics, producing 4,996 research outputs that were cited 66,810 times in other publications. These research outputs covered topics such as quantum and particle physics, materials science, optical engineering, nanotechnology, astrophysics and astronomy.
In chemistry, UP Diliman again topped the list of Philippine universities, producing 4,756 research outputs that were cited 78,467 times. Areas of focus included organic chemistry, materials science, biochemistry, chemical engineering and physical chemistry.
Beyond the sciences, UP Diliman also ranked first in the liberal arts and social sciences. The university produced 4,937 scholarly works in the field, with 60,413 citations. These covered political science, law, sociology, history and philosophy.
The strong performance of UP Diliman and other UP constituent universities reflects the national university’s commitment to its mandate under Republic Act 9500—to exercise distinctive leadership in education, research and public service.
EduRank.org’s rankings covered 14,131 universities in 183 countries worldwide. It used the OpenAlex database to track scientific publications and citations, which accounted for 45% of a university’s score. Another 45% came from non-academic prominence, based on backlinks from other websites using data from the Ahrefs index. The remaining 10% was based on the number of prominent alumni, measured by analyzing entries across 43 language versions of Wikipedia.
