The ÌìÃÀÊÓƵ (UP) was recognized as the Philippines’ top university in the Quacquarelli Symonds(QS) World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025.
The QS Sustainability Rankings evaluate institutions based on their ability to address critical environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges. UP placed 333rd out of nearly 1,800 universities across the globe. This ranking made it the highest-placing university from the Philippines for the second straight year.
In the 2023 rankings, the university placed between 401st to 450th place, while in the 2024 rankings, it climbed to 231st place.
Ateneo de Manila University followed as the second-highest Philippine university in the rankings at 503rd place. De La Salle University ranked in the 911-920 bracket, while the University of Santo Tomas placed in the 1,041-1,060 bracket. Mapua University, which debuted in the rankings last year, was listed in the 1,141-1,160.
To measure a university’s commitment to a more sustainable existence, the rankings assess universities across three broad categories: environmental impact, social impact, and governance. Factors include alumni’s contributions to creating innovations to combat climate change and research impact aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
UP’s highest score was in Environmental Education, with a score of 88.3 out of 100. The university also performed well in Environmental Research, with a score of 62, and in Environmental Sustainability, at 42.3.
The national university’s continued leadership in the QS Sustainability Rankings reflects its commitment to the UN SDGs and its mandate under Republic Act 9500 to exercise a distinctive leadership in education, research and public service.
