Statement from the UP Administration

We have read, with great attentiveness and concern, between the ÌìÃÀÊÓƵ and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

We wish to reiterate that the declaration is non-binding and exploratory. Such an agreement, we maintain, is beneficial precisely because it provides a framework for the University to share its knowledge and expertise towards contributing to the broader advocacy for security sector reform in our country. Moreover, the agreement may also lay the groundwork for opportunities to address outstanding issues between the University and the AFP.

As always, the UP System Administration takes the sentiments of the University Council of Diliman into serious consideration as we work on potential areas of critical collaboration with the peace and development sector that will ensure the primacy of human rights and academic freedom. Consistent with the provisions of the UP Charter, UP as the National University will continue to engage in academic projects with other government institutions through our research units, subject to diligent review.
